TN Govt will ask Centre to bring out stamp of Narayanakavi:CM
Chennai, May 7 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today told the state assembly that the government would recommend for the release of a special stamp to commemorate the 25th year of Udumalai Narayanakavi to honour his participation in freedom struggle.
Replying to Mr B Ranganathan (DMK) during question hour, he said though the government has not received any representation in this regard, it would write to the Centre, based on the plea by the member.
He said the Telecom department has been releasing commemorative stamps on eminent state and national leaders to recognise their outstanding contributions, but in respect of Udumalai Narayanakavi, the government has not received any representation though his 25th anniversary was celebrated on May 23, 2006.
Replying to Mr Mullaivendan, the Chief Minister said after the Congress-led UPA came to power at the Centre, commemorative stamps have been released in respect of 25 eminent leaders, hailing from Tamil Nadu.
They included S S Vasan, Tirupur Kumaran, Murasoli Maran, M S Subbulakshmi, Thiru Vi Kalyana Sundaranar, A V Meyyappan, Gemini Ganesan, Kirubananda Variyar, Ma Po Sivagnanam and Azhagappa Chettiyar, he said.
