Teachers against involving them in Mid-Day meal scheme

Mysore, May 7 (UNI) School Teachers in Karnataka have expressed their displeasure for involving them in Mid-Day meal scheme stating that it affect their concentration on teaching.

Disclosing this to newsmen here, Dr Hanumanthappa, who is heading the Legislative Council Committee set up to study the need for continuation of School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC), said that during visit to the schools "some teachers have shared their views that it was difficult for them to concentrate on teaching while attending to the Mid-Day meal scheme. The Committee would take note of this compliant and consider relief to the teachers from the Schemes, he added.

He said that the Committee would be submitting its report during next four weeks time to the government.

The Committee visited some schools in the City and held meeting with officials and teachers and heard the grievances.

The SDMC set up to improve the standard of education both in government and private schools in the State.

Stating that the Committee would go in details on the SDMC functioning, Dr Hanumanthappa ruled out possibility abolishing the Committee saying that majority of the opinion was for continuation.

He said that it was also contemplated to include three lady members compulsorily in the SDMC. There are nearly 1.5 women teachers of the total 3.5 lakhs in the State.

The committee would visit the other three revenue divisions in the coming days before preparing the draft report. The committee also called a high level officials meeting in Bangalore on May 28 to discuss the issues. He added.
