New Delhi, May 7(UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to Delhi government and a woman, Jyoti Gupta, who is facing allegations ofcheating several diamond merchants to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore, on a petition seeking cancellation of her bail.
The petitoner, Raj Kumar Maheshwari, contended before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran that the accused along with her associates defrauded several jewellers of the city by disappearing after taking delivery of diamonds from them on the pretext of selling them to a family in DLF, Gurgaon.
The Delhi High Court had granted bail to Jyoti on August 28 last year, directing her not to leave Delhi without permission of the court.
Cheques issued by Jyoti bounced on presentation for encashment.
Her associate Kamal Bhola is also facing allegations of cheating.
