RSS members welcome Jung-e-Azadi rally
Meerut, May 7 (UNI) About 300 Rashtriya Swayam Sewak members, both men and women, today welcomed the Jung-e-Azadi rally on its way from Meerut to Modinagar.
The rally was flagged off by UP governor T V Rajeshwar.
Flowers were showered on the rallyists people, gathered on either side of the road, chanted slogans ''Bharat Mata ki jai'' and sang patriotic songs. The road was decorated with ''rangoli'' (designs made with colour powder).
A huge portrait of ''Bharat Mata'' was placed at the Baccha Park.
A flame was also lit in front of the potrait as a symbol of courage.
RSS sangh chalak (Meerut distt) Surya Prakash told UNI that a team of RSS men had left on April 8 to participate in the rally from moirang in Arunachal Pradesh where Subhash Chandra Bose for the first time had hoisted the flag of Independent India.
The RSS rally would travel across the country before reaching Meerut on May 10 at Baccha Park where a huge celebration would be held.
''There is no party politics involved. There is no role for any party as it is a national duty and we are only too pleased to chip in with our own bit, Mr Prakash said.
''Though we were not invited to the function but it is no issue as sara desh humara hai,'' he said.
''It is the spirit which is important and itis our duty to celebrate the day,'' he added.
This is our humble way to celebrate the big national event which is as important to us to anybody else.
A few days ago, an RSS sabha meeting had passed a resolution calling upon the youth to join hands to celebrate the anniversary of 1857 uprising.
The sabha had also decided that such functions would be held all over the country to inspire in the youth a feeling of patriotis.
