Punjab government wants SEZ at Goindwal town
Chandigarh, May 7 (UNI) The Punjab government has called upon the Central government to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Goindwal in Tarn Taran district, the country's first industrial nucleus.
This plea was made by Food and Civil Supplies and Information Technology Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon during his meeting with Mr G K Pillai, Secretary, Union Minister of Commerce recently.
Mr Pillai was on a two days visit to punjab to explore the possibilities for setting up of SEZs in the state.
Taking part in the deliberations, Mr Kairon said for SEZ at Gobindwal, no land acquisition would be required as about 250 acres land of Punjab State Industrial Corporation (PSIC) was laying idle which could be used for this purpose. Similarly, another chunk of land measuring over 250 acres, was already in the possession of the government.
The Minister further said that this would also help in developing the industry in border areas of the state.
