PM on two-day Asom visit from tomorrow
Guwahati, May 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will arrive here tomorrow on a two-day 'unofficial' visit.
He will file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections in the state, due on May 24. His third consecutive tenure as an MP to the Upper House from Asom expires on June 14.
Dr Singh's re-election to the Rajya Sabha from Asom has become a mere formality as the Congress has enough votes to ensure his win.
Official sources said the Prime Minister will arrive at the Borjhar Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here at 1215 hours, and go straight to Raj Bhavan.
On May 9, Dr Singh will file his nominations papers at the Asom Legislative Building at 1115 hours. He will fly back to New Delhi at 1600 hours the same day.
Official sources said as the visit was unofficial, the itinerary of the Prime Minister was reserved and he would attend no other programme.
Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in the city in view of the Prime Minister's visit.
A police official said special security arrangements have been made in the city. Frisking and patrolling intensified to prevent any subversive activities of militants.
