PDP ready to pay any price for people's dignity: Mehbooba
Anantnag, May 7 (UNI) Asserting that her party's struggle for the restoration of the dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir would continue at any cost, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today said nobody would be allowed to trade their interests for power.
''The PDP will take its struggle for the restoration of the honour and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to its logical conclusion, at whatever cost,'' Ms Mufti told a public meeting at Kuthar, Shangus in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
She said the PDP's greatest contribution to the state's political scenario was its role in the ''emancipation and empowerment'' of the people.
Claiming that her party's biggest strength was the confidence that the people of the state had reposed in it, Ms Mufti said other political outfits and groups were running scared at the thought of facing public scrutiny.
''The fear of facing public scrutiny has unnerved other parties and they have ganged up against the PDP to malign the party.'' The people who were spouting ''anti-PDP rhetoric'' to please their bosses stood exposed before the masses as the people knew the PDP was committed to its principled agenda of restoring their dignity and honour, she said.
''The political leaders who pretend to be fiercely pro-Kashmiri while in Srinagar, rush to Delhi with all sorts of canards against the PDP...while some of them accuse us of being soft on militants, others do not even desist from labeling us as pro-Pakistan.'' However, the people of the state were aware that the political and economic interests were supreme for the PDP and the party would safeguard them at any cost, Ms Mufti added.
