Par adjourned till 1400 hrs on Gujarat, other issues

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 1400 hrs today as unruly scenes prevailed with both the ruling and opposition members seeking to raise various issues all at a time, defying the chair.

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were first adjourned till 1200 hrs shortly after the two Houses had assembled at 1100 hrs.

Members of Congress, Left parties and Samajwadi Party(SP) raised an uproar over the fake police encounters in Gujarat with alleged active collusion of BJP government in the state.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled at 1100 hrs to take up the Question Hour, Congress members led by Mr Madhusudan Mistry got up on their feet accusing the Gujarat government of shielding the politicians and police officers responsible for heinous killings of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser Bi.

The Congress members were joined by CPI(M) leader Mohammed Saleem, other Left leaders and Ramji Lal Suman(SP) who charged the state Government with 'communal bias' and violation of human rights.

As the slogan-shouting continued, BJP deputy leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra and his other NDA colleagues also raised a ruckus.

The BJP members charged the Left leaders with Nandigram killings of innocent protestors which were more grotesque than the Gujarat incidents.

The Speaker repeatedly told the shouting members that nothing would go on the record and adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.

When the House reassembled at 1200 hrs, there was order for some time till the members laid papers listed against their names and two Ministers made statements on labour and external affairs.

Once this was over, Mr Ramjilal Suman (SP) and Mr Mistry were on their feet, seeking to raise the Gujarat issue.

Prof Malhotra wanted to move a breach of privelege motion against Shipping Minister T R Baalu for ''misleading'' the House, stating that the Ram Sethu-Sethu Samudram project was sub judice. The Speaker had subsequently ruled that the issue was not sub judice.

Shortly after this, the BJP members trooped into the well and raised slogans despite the Speaker's appeal for order and that he would allow Prof Malhotra to raise the issue tomorrow in the form of a call attention motion.

Tamil Nadu MPs and a few other ruling party members were also on the verge of the well countering the BJP.

Sensing the mood of the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 1400 hrs.
