Mercury on rise in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 7 (UNI) The mercury shot up eight degrees above normal in the Kashmir valley as people continued to swelter under the blazing Sun for a second consecutive day today.

The weather office here said the maximum temperature in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was recorded at 29.7 degrees Celsius, eight degrees above normal while the minimum stood at 12.5 degrees Celsius.

It said Pahalgam and other hill resorts also witnessed rising temperatures. In Pahalgam, the maximum stood at 26.0 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius.

The met office said heat wave conditions prevailed in Jammu where the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius.

While the minimum temperature in the winter capital of the state stood at 26.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather office predicted rain and thunder showers at several places across the state.
