Mandependa Family lifts Mandetira Hockey Cup

Madikeri, Karnataka, May 7 (UNI) The team belonging to Mandependa Family lifted the Mandetira Hockey Cup defeating Anjaparvanda Family 7-6 today in the finals of the inter-family hockey tournament which attracted a record 187 teams from Kodagu district known as cradle of Indian hockey.

The final which proved to be a edge of the seat thriller, was level at 1-1 after extra time and even tie breaker failed to break the deadlock as the two teams were again locked at 6-6. Mandependa emerged winners in sudden death with International Player Prakash scoring the winning goal. Thousands of spectators which included women and children jumped with joy even as the most memorable match was decided in one team's favour.

In the regular time Devaiah opened the account in 14th minute for Mandependa, while Roshan Madappa brought the equaliser in the 64th minute for Anjaparvanda family.

In the tie-breaker both the teams scored five goals each.

However, in the sudden death it was Prakash who succeeded while Abhina Chettiappa's hit went outside the post.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Kandrathanda Kaverappa distributed the prizes.

In all 187 teams participated in the tournament which began on April 16.
