Livestock farming alternative to agriculture: Minister

Hyderabad, May 7 (UNI) State Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Mandali Budda Prasad today said the demand for veterinary services was increasing by the day and livestock farming was the only alternative to agriculture with the government committed to improve the socio-economic status of the poor through livestock development.

After assuming charge, he announced the grounding of 1.32 lakh milch cattle under the Prime Minister's package and special package of Rs 500 crore would commence soon and informed that this scheme with large number of beneficiaries was first of its kind to be implemented in the country.

He advised all departmental officers to work with commitment for the welfare of the rural poor and earn good name for the department and the government.
