Hooda reviews progress of projects undertaken in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 7 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today reviewed the progress of major projects undertaken in the state at a meeting with senior officers of his Government and stressed the need for their timely completion.

The projects included development of Education City at Sonepat-Kundli, extension of Delhi Metro to the towns of Haryana sub-region of National Capital Region (NCR), Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Global Corridor Project and new township projects like Sampla, Samalkha-Ganaur and Jahagirpur -Badli.

The projects are undertaken by the Town and Country Planning Department and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). The ambitious project of Education City, being developed at Kundli in Sonepat district, would have quality infrastructure and support services so as to invite top class educational institutes of the world to open their campuses in the Education City and to introduce cutting edge technologies devoted to research in the emerging areas. The Education City would be located at a distance of 22 kilometers from the Inter-State Bus Terminus, Delhi and 45 kilometers from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, Mrs Shakuntla Jakhu said that roads and services in the education city would be completed at the earliest and plots of land will be offered to parties by March 2008.

Mr Hooda suggested that the Education Department should be involved in the development of Education city and appreciated the decision of the Town and Country Planning Department to have development plans for villages falling within the area of the Education City.

In case of the metro rail extension to Gurgaon, Mrs Jakhu informed the Chief Minister that the Haryana Government was required to give Rs 567 crore to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRCL) for the execution of metro rail extension to Gurgaon. This amount would be paid in four equal instalments of Rs 141.75 crore upto the year 2009. She said that while the first segment of the project falling in Delhi would have a length of 7.42 kms. and the second segment falling in Gurgaon would have 7.05 kms.

In case of metro rail extension to Faridabad, the State Government has approved the extension of Metro rail from Badarpur-Delhi Border to YMCA Chowk, Faridabad. The state government's proposal is yet to be approved by the Government of India, she added.

It was informed that development plans for new townships of Sampla and Jahagirpur-Badli would be finalised by August 2007.

With a view to improve connectivity with Delhi, the Chief Minister stressed the need for construction of additional road links and also strengthening of existing links. It was informed that Mehrauli-Gurgaon road would be widened and road from Dhansa border to Bijwasan would be strengthened before 2009.

Mr Hooda also reviewed the proposed action plan for Gurgaon, which included Waste Water Management System. The action plan involved an investment of Rs 534 crore.

Mrs Jakhu informed that Phase-II of Action Plan for Gurgaon have got prepared, which runs over Rs 400 crore.

While reviewing the working of Haryana Urban Development Authority, Mrs Jakhu said that HUDA was operational in 28 urban estates. As against Rs 327 crore spent in the year 2005-06, Rs 430 crore were incurred during the financial year 2006-07 on various developmental plans.

Mr Hooda stressed the need to speed up construction of one lakh low cost houses for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of Society.

Mrs Jakhu informed that a good beginning in this regard has already been made by formulating a scheme known as '' Ashiana'' for over 8000 EWS houses in Panchkula which would make Panchkula slum free city.

Land has been identified for implementing EWS schemes for Faridabad, Rewari, Rohtak, Gurgaon, Ambala and Yamuna Nagar. Mr Hooda pointed out that such low cost houses should be constructed around Delhi also, especially in Faridabad and Gurgaon.
