Chennai, May 7: DMK Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy today refuted reports that funds from the State exchequer was being drained for the celebrations to mark Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi's golden jubilee in the Assembly and clarified that the party and its allies met all the expenses.

In a statement here, he categorically stated that no amount was being spent by the Government for the public meeting, to be attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Ministers and Ministers, to mark the occasion.

''The party will take care of all the expenses for the function planned in the Assembly too,'' he added.

Claiming that some political leaders, unable to digest the large scale celebrations with the participation of senior national politicians, were spreading such rumours, he called upon the leaders not to confuse the public on this count.
