Kannur, May 7 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat today said the CPI(M) was for industry on the basis of agriculture and vice versa.

New industries were welcome but they should not be against farmers, he told a meeting organised as part of the concluding celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first Communist Government in Kerala.

Regarding Nandigram, Mr Karat said the people were with the CPI(M) and alleged the Thrinamool Congress and others were trying to create blockades in development. The people would isolate these forces, he added.

The CPI(M) Government in Bengal was going in for industrial development only after the agriculture sector was developed, he said.

Alleging the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government had opened all sectors for multinationals, he said and added the Left Front would oppose this in all ways.

The CPI(M) in Kerala, Tripura and WestBengal could show them the way for development, he added.
