Corporate sector urge to use managerial talent of ex-servicemen
New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Minister for Defence M M Palam Raju today called upon the captains of industry and commerce to utilise the vast managerial skills of ex-servicemen to sustain growth of the country's booming economy while helping resettle retired defence personnel.
Inaugurating the fourth Independent Director's Course for Senior Defence Officials at Assocham here, he said ex-servicemen with virtues of integrity, dedication and management skill, could do wonders in corporate sector if they were taken in and given a little orientation in corporate governance.
Majority of the armed forces personnel retired at a time when their family liability was at its peak. There was therefore a dire need to provide them with a second career in the civil sector, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Resettlement Maj Gen Harwant Kishan said DGR, in association with CII, FICCI and Assocham, was organising various programmes to create awareness in the corporate sector about the vast reservoir of trained and multi-discipline human resource available to them in the form of ex-servicemen.
About 50 officers, from Brigadier to Lt General, were attending the week-long specialised course.
