BRO celebrates 47th anniversary with renewed pledge

Aizawl, May 7 (UNI) The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) today celebreted its 47th anniversary with a renewed pledge to live up to the expectation of countrymen.

Speaking on the occasion BRO's director general Lt Gen K S Rao said the organisation was on the threshold of a giant leap forward through continuous modernisation of equipment and force.

The BRO, set up on May 7, 1960, for development of remote and inaccessible areas of North and Northeast India, completed 47 years of service.

The role of the organisation was to develop and maintain the operational road infrastructure for Army in the border areas and contribute to the socio-economic development of the border states, Mr Rao said.

Presently, the BRO is working in 21 Indian states, besides neighbouring countries of Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

BRO has wings from the deserts of Rajasthan to the snow-clad mountains in the Jammu and Kashmir and to the dense forests of NE.
