Aizawl, May 7: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) today celebrated its 47th anniversary with a renewed pledge to live up to the expectations of countrymen.

Speaking on the occasion, BRO's director general Lt Gen K S Rao said the organisation was on the threshold of a giant leap forward through continuous modernisation of equipment and force.

The BRO was set up on May 7, 1960 for the development of remote and inaccessible areas of North and Northeast India.

Its role was to develop and maintain the operational road infrastructure for Army in the border areas and contribute to the socio-economic development of the border states, Mr Rao said.

Presently, the BRO is working in 21 Indian states, besides neighbouring countries of Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

BRO has wings from the deserts of Rajasthan to the snow-clad mountains in the Jammu and Kashmir and to the dense forests of NE.
