Bridge collapse causes price rise of essentials in Mizoram
Aizawl, May 7 (UNI) Prices of essential commodities in Aizawl have gone up following stoppage of import of essentials for past one week after collapse of a vital link bridge on the National Highway 44, the lifeline of Tripura, Mizoram and some parts of Asom.
A 166-feet-long Bailey bridge near the Asom-Meghalaya border was collapsed on Thursday and now was under repair.
The bridge was damaged by a landslide caused by heavy rainfall.
Trucks carrying essential commodities remained stranded on both sides of the bridge. Only pedestrians could pass through the bridge.
BRTF officials said it would take at least 10-15 days for completion of the repairing works.
