Hyderabad, May 7 (UNI) Opposing the Andhra Pradesh Government's move to divert Godavari waters to the Krishna basin, Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today demanded the Government to come out with a water policy, clearly indicating the water allocation for various regions of the State.

Talking to newspersons here, BJP State President Bandaru Dattattreya alleged ''Instead of stopping the Babli project by Maharashtra, the Congress Government was bent upon diverting Godavari waters to Krishna basin, adding to the woes of Telangana which is facing the threat of its land turning barren.'' Mr Dattattreya criticised the government for coming out with a Government Order (GO) for the diversion, without taking all parties in the state into confidence.

The Telangana people would not believe the Government, if it issued the GO for Chevalla-Pranahita and Dummagudem-Sagar tail pond projects, without making budgetary allocations for these projects, he added.

Referring to the opposition by senior Congress leaders M Sashidhar Reddy and P Janardhan Reddy to the alleged taking away of Krishna water allocated to Telangana and Krishna Delta to the Rayalaseema region through the Pottireddypadu head regulator, he said it was unfortunate that the Government was putting at loggerheads various regions in the state.

''The Government cannot set aside the concerns expressed by senior Congress leaders. Both the State Governments and Centre should immediately address their concerns,'' he added.
