Arunachal government rejects draft proposal on delimitation

Itanagar, May 7 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided not to accept the draft proposal on delimitation of Assembly constituencies forwarded by the centre's Delimitation Committee.

Briefing newspersons here today, state government spokesman Tako Dabi informed that the government noted that the draft proposal was against the wishes and aspirations of the people as they wanted status quo on all the 60 existing constituencies should be maintained.

He said during 1990 sixty Assembly constituencies were created from the existing 30 as per the 1981 census considering the geographical, topographical, ethnicity, social, political and language factors of the tribal population of this Himalayan state.

'' The government has decided to convene a meeting of all the Legislators to discuss the matter and the outcome would be forwarded to the Commission in form of memorandum, '' he said adding meeting with public leaders would be convened soon and their wishes would be forwarded to the Commission for further action.

He said as per the draft proposal except Upper Siang, Anjaw and Dibang Valley districts all the constituencies of other 13 districts comprising 56 constituencies were disturbed and as a result people started reacting all over the state.

Meanwhile, the government had appealed to the people not to resort to any form of strike and bandh calls in the name of delimitation, the spokesman iterated.
