Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) Maintaining patience as the buzzword in the face of continued violence at Nandigram, the CPI(M) today decided to continue with the peace process as well as the political campaign against the Trinamool Congress-led Opposition force.

The party's state committee, which met here to chalk out a strategy to end the stalemate over Nandigram, also resolved to mobilise public opinion in favour of the setting up of industries.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, veteran leader Jyoti Basu and party's state Committee Secretary Biman Basu were among others present at the day-long meeting.

Discussing the prevailing situation in Nandigram, the state Committee members observed that the Opposition political force was bent upon unleashing violence against the CPI(M) supporters by indulging in murders, assault while forcing many to flee home.

In spite of that, the state Committee was of the view that efforts must be continued to restore peace in the area through discussion. '' At the same time a statewide campaign will be on to uncover the real situation at Nandigram and the nature of the attack of the reactionary forces, '' the party said.

Though observing that a large section of people, including farmers, was in favour of setting up of industries, the state Committee members agreed that the present situation required an intensive campaign, including small meetings and door-to-door interaction, to strengthen the demand for industrialisation from among the masses.

The meeting was called in the background of the persistent refusal of the Trinamool-led Opposition to participate in any all-party meeting for restoration of peace and normalcy in the strife-torn area where all economic and development activities came to a standstill for months and police had been kept at bay by members of the Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee.

Though the state Government issued an official notification that no land would be taken at Nandigram for setting up of industries, the flames of violence since January so far claimed at least 20 lives, including those killed in police firing on March 14. Hundreds of houses were either demolished or set on fire and about 5,000 people had been forced to leave their hearth.

Alleging that CPI(M) supporters, camping in the adjoining Khejuri, were attacking Nandigram, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee recently alleged that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was not sincere in restoring peace in the area.

She said her party could consider taking part in all-party meeting if it was called by the Governor.

While adopting a long-term strategy for Nandigram, the CPI(M) state Committee, however, called for ''allout efforts'' for implementation of development programmes at panchayat and municipal levles with ''speed and transparency''.

'' Efforts must be made to ensure that development programmes in other areas are not hampered, '' it said.
