MP town sizzling at 48 deg C?
Barwani, MP, May 5 (UNI) Amid reports of mercury touching a maximum of 48 degree Celsius constantly for a fortnight in this west Madhya Pradesh town, the meteorological department has recommended the Central Water Commission (CWC) to replace the measurement instrument.
Mercury climbing up to 45-46 deg C is considered normal in the state's western Nimad division. However, apprehensions had been expressed by experts after a constant temperature of 48 deg C was recorded in Barwani.
As the meteorological department does not have a laboratory here, temperature is obtained from an old 'U' category instrument at the CWC office.
Meanwhile, Regional Meteorological Director D P Dubey told UNI that he had held discussions with CWC officials and recommended installing of a new instrument.
Barwani Collector Arun Tiwari visited the CWC office here yesterday and examined the recording instrument. He had written to the Commission to install a new instrument.
CWC(Kukra) incharge Omprakash Patidar claimed that the recording instrument was in proper condition. However, a new instrument would be installed in view of the recommendations.
Mercury rising up to 48 deg C is considered normal in some areas of Rajasthan because of its topography. However, experts had expressed apprehensions on recording of such high temperature in Barwani constantly for a fortnight.
