Indian army to carry out joint training with MNDF in Maldives
Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 (UNI) Indian Army will carry out a joint training with the Maldivian National Defence Forces (MNDF) at Maldives.
This was for the first time that Indian Army was planning to carry out such a training exercise at Maldives, though Indian Navy had earlier conducted joint training with that country on a number of occasions, a release said here.
MNDF personnel also had regularly attended courses of instructions at Indian military establishments, it added.
The joint training event code-named 'EKUVERIN', would involve troops from an Infantry Battalion from the Indian Army's Southern Command, conducted from today at the MNDF training centre at Khadhoo Island.
The aim of the training was to foster Army to Army Cooperation and enhance inter-operability, it said, adding that the MNDF was also seeking to acquire some of Indian Army's invaluable operation experience.
In the seven-day-long training, soldiers of both nations would train side by side followed by a two-day counter terrorist exercise, it added.
