UP govt to honour girls for thwarting molestation bid
Lucknow, May 4 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government will honour two girl students who threw acid on a couple of their male batchmates allegedly trying to outrage their modesty in the district.
As a token of appreciation for the courage that the girls displayed, the state government has announced to reward them with Rs 2,000 each, Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava said here this evening.
However, the accused have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) and Gangster Act, he added.
According to sources, the girls have also been provided round the clock lady security guards and an accomodation in the Reserve Police Lines till they find a secure place to shift. So far, they were putting up as paying guests.
The girls, Neeta and Shalini, were pursuing their graduation from the Raja Shivpati Degree College, a reputed institution of the region. The duo were allegedly being harassed by Santosh and Vipin for the past few days.
Things took a turn for the worse, when the accused tried to sneak into the apartment where the girls lived. The moment they saw the boys appearing near the window, they emptied an acid bottle on them.
An hour later, the two returned with their associates to seek vengeance but were arrested by the police.
