Ahmedabad, May 4 (UNI) Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Women and Child Development Renuka Chaudhury will attend a 'sammelan' here on May 6, organised for voluntary organisations working for upliftment and empowerment of women in Central Gujarat.

The sammelan is got up by Setu Seva Bharati Trust of Vadodara and Central Social Welfare Board with active support from Gujarat Pradesh Mahila Congress Samiti.

Addressing mediapersons here today, GPMCS president Chandrika Chudasma said the function will be inaugurated by Ahmed Patel, advisor to Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

It will be attended by Rajnitai of Central Social Welfare board, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bharatsinh Solanki and well-known danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, she said.

Ms Chudasma said the sammelan would discuss issues like female foeticide, women empowerment, deteriorating law and order situation in the state and relaxation of prohibition rules by the Modi government.

In each district, the state government is spending crores of rupees on 'Beti Bachao Yojana' and considering the statistics of last six years, there has been an increase in foeticides, she said.

Contrary to the BJP government's propaganda, Gujarat today ranks 5th in foeticide cases, she said, adding that for every 1000 male child born only 850 were girl child.
