Pictorial book released on artist Bikash Bhattacharjee's life

Mumbai, May 4 (UNI) A pictorial book on the life and works of one of India's most gifted contemporary artist, late Bikash Bhattacherjee was released by RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka and Gallery Chemould Director Kekoo Gandhy, here today.

The book authored by Manasij Majumdar, an authority on art and theatre writings, and published by Niyogi Books, deals with Bikash's early life in an old North Kolkata locality, the urban social ambience that shaped his creative personality and explores why he chose to remain 'close to events' and free from the dominant trends in post independence Indian art.

Foreword written by M F Hussain says, ''In the Bikash Woman the daring third dimension has emerged, as the essence of Indian culture Shakti, Maha Kali.'' The book contains Bikash's numerous paintings depicting women in different moods with stunning range of rich and complex imagery, appearing unforgettable faces and figures.

Speaking on the occasion, Harsh Goenka said Bikash's paintings have technical as well as emotional appeal and has also created a unique authentic mileu.
