Peace in Nandigram not possible without culprits' arrest: SUCI
Kolkata, May 4 (UNI) Dissatisfied with Calcutta High Court's direction, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today said peace was impossible in Nandigram unless the culprits of the March 14 incident were taken to task.
Addressing a press conference here, SUCI state secretary Provash Ghosh alleged that Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjhar and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh yesterday asked the state government to supply immediately essential commodities to the villagers of Nandigram but it was unfortunate that the court did not direct to arrest the culprits involved in the carnage.
He said it was decided in the all party meetings, held on January 8 and February 19, that the police camp in border area of Khejuri would be withdrawn for restoring peace in Nandigram but the government did not implement it till now. '' So peace will not come in Nandigram unless the March 14 culprits are booked,'' Mr Ghosh observed.
He said the Bhumi Uchched Protirodh Committee already demanded for withdrawing the police camp adding those who were rendered homeless should return to their home.
The party would campaign against the state's land acquisition till May 11 and a law violation programme would be held on May 12 throughout the state, Mr Ghosh said.
