One demonstrator injured in CRPF firing in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 4 (UNI) At least one person was injured when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire to disperse a violent mob in the downtown city this afternoon.

Official sources said that a group of people took to the streets at Nowhatta near historic Jamia Musjid this afternoon.

They pelted stones on passing vehicles and blocked traffic on the main road.

A CRPF spokesman said that a CRPF vehicle was damaged by the mob.

He said CRPF personnel fired six rounds in self defence in which one person received bullet wounds in the foot. He was hospitalised.

Earlier, Hurriyat Confernce Chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq addressing a Friday congregation had asked the people to identify the people who are responsible for creating trouble in the area every Friday.
