MHRC directs police to file detail report of bride burning
Imphal, May 4 (UNI) The Manipur Human Rights Commission today directed the state Director General of Police, to submit a report by May 31 citing reasons for failure to collect evidences in the alleged wife burning case of February 24 in Thoubal district.
The Commission's directive came following a complaint filed by the Co-ordinator of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), Manipur, yesterday.
On April 28 a team from HRLN went to the Sija Hospital Research Centre at Lamphelpat to meet the survivour of violence.
Leichonbam Ungbi Ibemnungshi(30), wife of Leichonbam Jiban Singh, a resident of Thoubal district, told the HRLN members that on February 24 at around 1800 hours while she was cooking dinner, her husband poured kerosene on her and set on fire.
However, she was saved by her neighbours.
She sustained some 30 per cent burn injuries.
The HRLN alleged that the husband, a Rifleman in the 6th Battalion of Manipur Rifles, was still roaming free.
