HC directs Global Village organisers to clean up Yamuna bed

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) to clear all illegal constructions including the roads built during the ''Times Global Village'' within four weeks in compliance with the Environment Act.

A division bench comprising of Chief Justice M K Sarma and Justice Rekha Sharma directed the NTBCL to clean all constructions carried out to hold the international exhibition on the banks of river Yamuna.

Mr S M Agrawal, the convenor of the Yamuna Removal of Encroachments Monitoring Committee, submitted that many pavillions of various countries, dancing floors and shopping arcades had been built on the bank during the Times Global Village fair.

''The organisation should comply to the environment norms by not allowing construction within 300 meters from the edge of the river bed,'' said the order.

The fair was organised by NTBCL, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation(DTTDC) and E-4 Entertainment - to organise the fair on commercial basis.
