Haryana Roadways to add up to 4500 buses to its fleet

Chandigarh, May 4 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to add 3500 to 4500 buses in the fleet of Haryana Roadways during 11th Five Year Plan with a view to meeting the increasing demand of commuters in the state.

Haryana Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said that as part of this plan, fuel efficient CNG buses as well as several AC and deluxe buses were being added to the fleet.

He said operations on inter state routes were also proposed to be increased because of enhanced traffic demand due to renewal of inter-state agreements.

Mr Surjewala said the new bus services recently introduced by the Haryana Roadways, including SAARTHI Volvo AC bus services plying on Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon routes, Haryana Gaurav bus services and Haryana Uday CNG bus services, had gained immense popularity among the travelling public.

The Minister said that the government had spent a sum of Rs ten crore during 2005-06 and 2006-07 for the repair and renovation of bus stands and workshops. New toilets had been constructed and made operational at most of the bus stands and water coolers with filters had also been provided on the bus stands.

Yatri Niwas complexes had been constructed at bus stands of Ambala Cantt and Kalka for the benefit of the commuters.

Perforated steel chairs were also being provided on the most of the bus stands to provide better seating facility to the passengers, he added.
