Farmers call off agitation against CWDT award

Mysore, May 4: The 90-day old agitation against final verdict of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) launched by farmers in the Cauvery basin Districts of Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagara has been called off today.

Announcing this decision at a press conference, Mr G Made Gowda, President of the Cauvery Raitha Hitha Rakshna Samithi, which was spearheading the agitation, however, clarified that this was only a temporary call off following the State government filing a review petition before the Supreme Court.

"We have full confidence in judiciary. However, if the Apex court decision goes against the interests of the Karnataka Farmers the agitation would be re-launched and this time it would be different in nature.
