Farmers call off agitation against Cauvery award
Mysore, May 4 (UNI) The 89-day-old agitation against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), launched by farmers in the Cauvery basin districts of Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagara, was called off today.
Announcing this decision at a press conference, Mr G Made Gowda, President of the Cauvery Hitharakshana Samithi, spearheading the agitation, however, clarified that this was only a temporary call off, following the State Government filing a review petition before the Supreme Court.
''We have full confidence in the judiciary. However, if the apex court's decision goes against the interests of Karnataka farmers, the agitation will be re-launched and next time it will be different in nature,'' he said.
