New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) Delhi government today told the Supreme Court that it was trying its best to improve and control the deteriorating power crisis in the national capital as steep rise in demand for power is directly linked with the increasing prosperity and consumers aspirations.

The government of Delhi also told the bench comprising Justices P K Balasubramanyan and D K Jain that the proposal of Tatas to set up a 1000MW gas based power plant in Bawana for which NDPL has demanded 100 acres of land has been forwarded to DDA as land allottment can be made by DDA only.

Expressing doubts about continuous supply of gas for running the power plant the government informed the apex court that two plants of the state government at Pragati Maidan and Bawana are also lying non-functional due to non-availability of gas.

The power situation in city is being monitored by the chief minister and the chief secretary.

The government is also trying to meet the increased demand for 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Delhi government has also told the top court that if union petroleum ministry can give firm commitment for supply of 6.7 MMSCMD of gas than it can start its two power stations at Bawana(1000MWs) and Pragati Maidan(330MWs). Both the projects have already been cleared.
