K'taka: Death toll in rain-related mishaps is 11

Mysore, May 4: The death toll in rain-related incidents in the city during the last three days has risen to 11, with two more persons, including a woman, killed last night.

Police said 45-year-old Yashodamma died in a local hospital after a tree under which she had taken shelter fell on her, as rains accompanied by strong winds hit the city.

Another person Revanna (37) was killed in a lightning strike at Kallur village on the outskirts of the city when he went to collect wood.

City Corporation Commissioner Dr Chandrasekhar told UNI that more than 500 trees were uprooted in the city, damaging over 50 vehicles.

The authorities have been struggling hard to clear the trees which affected traffic at various points.

Meanwhile, the entire city was darkened due to power supply failure following torrential rains. Electricity was expected to be restored only in the evening. Water supply in the city was also affected.
