Fazilka, May 4 (UNI) BSF personnel today recovered eight kg heroin, worth Rs eight crore in the international market, near a border outpost (BOP) in Abohar-Fazilka sector.

Some of the contraband was packed in 129 capsules totally weighing 1.5 kg, which was a novel mode in this region while the rest was packaged in the usual powder form, DIG BSF Abohar sub-sector V K Sharma told UNI. In all there were eight packets of heroin, he added.

According to Mr Sharma, the BSF had been maintaing extra vigil in the region due to apprehensions of a spurt in the smuggling activities during the harvest season.

The BSF personel today found the narcotic consignment hidden under a mulberry tree outside a mazar near BOP GG-1.

''The smugglers had used the ''conceal and clear'' method but before the contraband could be picked by the contact, alert BSF personnel who were scanning the area, recovered it, '' the DIG said.

All the packets had PTTE-HAD written prominently and attempts were on to 'crack' the marking, he added.

The seized contranband has been handed over to the local police which has registered a case under NDPS. No arrests were made in this connection so far, Mr Sharma said.
