15 killed, 45 injured in heavy rain
Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) As many as 15 people were killed and over 45 injured in heavy rains caused by depression over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea that struck several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports received here, Chittoor accounted for four deaths, there were 3 deaths each in Guntur, Warangal and Rangareddy and two in Nellore.
The depression lay centered at about 350 km north of Port Blair this afternoon. It was likely to intensify further and move in the north-north easterly direction and cross the Arakan (Burma) coast by tomorrow morning, a report from Vijayawada quoting metereological department officials said.
Distant cautionary signal was hoisted at all the major ports in the state, it added.
Veeraghattam, Darsi Podili recorded a high rainfall of four cm while Anantapur, Rentachintala, Bobbili, Komarada, Parvathipuram, Huzurabad, Pathapatnam recorded three cm each.
Maximum temperatures fell at a few places over Telangana and Rayalaseema and at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
They were below normal at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema.
The highest maximum temperature of 42 degree C was recorded at Medak and Nizamabad.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated rain or thundershowers were expected over Telangana and Rayalaseema.
Hyderabad would have partly cloudy sky. Rain or thundershowers were likely in some parts of the city. Maximum temperature would be around 39 degree C.
A report from Visakhapatnam said the depression moved slightly northwards and at 1130 hrs today lay centered near latitude 15 degrees.
