Women to form 50 pc of total anchors of AIR/DD

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Women will form 50 per cent of the total anchors of Doordarshan and All India Radio by August 15 this year.

The step would be a beginning towards ensuring parity for women in the field of media, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said here.

He felt that the condition of women Journalists in the country, especially those in their early career, was far from satisfactory.

Mr Das Munsi advocated proper facilities at workplaces considering specific needs of women who have to take care of their familial obligations along with their job/career.

The Minister's remarks came while inaugurating a 'Workshop on Gender Equality in Indian Media' on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day today.
