Tripura remains cut off from rest of the country

Agartala, May 3: The surface transport link between Tripura and other parts of the country remained cut off for the second consecutive day following collapse of a bridge in Malidarah area along the Asom-Meghalaya border.

Official sources said here today that hundreds of Tripura and Mizoram bound loaded trucks and passenger buses have been left stranded on National Highway 44, which connects Tripura, Mizoram and Barak Valley of south Asom.

Border Road Task Force (BRTF) officials stated that 166-metre long bridge over a small river collapsed because of movement of heavy loaded vehicles.

''We have already initiated restoration work of the bridge and it will be done shortly,'' BRTF 97 RCC Commanding Officer D N Keshari said.
