Tourism in Pondy registers 10-15 pc growth: CII

Puducherry, May 3 (UNI) The Tourism Industry in the Union Territory of Puducherry has witnessed a revenue growth of 10 to 15 per cent between October 2006 and March 2007, according to CII findings.

According to a CII statement here today, this was noticed in its bi-annual industry monitor survey.

With a 20 to 30 per cent increase in the flow of tourists, the foreign exchange had increased by five to 10 per cent and the occupancy rate by 10 to 15 per cent during the period.

On par with the growth in industrial sector, the level of employment had also increased by 15 to 20 per cent during the period, the statement added.

The Automotive and Auto Components Industry in Puducherry had shown mixed growth trends in performance parameters during the period and the industry production had gone up by 15 to 20 per cent during the period.

The revenue and overseas billing of the IT sector here had gone up to five to 10 per cent between October 2006 and March 2007 and the Food Processing Industry here had shown a marginal growth in the performance parameters during the same period and both the production level and sales had increased by five per cent, the statement added.
