Steps will be taken get medical colllege affiliation: Valsraj

Puducherry, May 3 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will take necessary steps to ensure that Pondicherry University accords affiliation to Lakshminarayana Medical college here, Health Minister E Valsaraj told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a special mention by AIADMK member A Anbazhagan, Mr Valsaraj said the administration had admitted 75 students through CENTAC, only after ensuring that the college had the MCI approval.

The college had written to the University once again to grant affiliation and the administration would also take steps in this regard to protect the future of the students, he added.

Earlier, moving his special mention, Mr Anbazhagan said while admitting the students the government should have ensured that the college had the MCI approval and university affiliation.

The future of the students were bleak as they were unable to appear for examinations, he said adding that the college authorities did not permit the university team to inspect the infrastructure facilities.

Making a suo-motu statement at the fag end of the session, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said he had spoken to the university authorities, who agreed to hold discussions with the college in respect of granting affiliation.

Meanwhile, the medical college was also making efforts to get the Deemed University status, he added.
