Stakeholders for CW games Infrastructure should work together: CM
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today exhorted all departments and agencies, responsible for commissioning of infrastructure for Commonwealth Games (CW) 2010, to work in effective coordination for its timely completion.
Addressing a High Level Sub-Committee meeting today, wherein a presentation on city infrastructure for CW Games 2010 was made, including new flyovers, bridges and stadia; transport connectivity including parking facilities; improvement and widening of roads, augmentation of power and water supply and improvement of various services, the Chief Minister requested all the stakeholders to ensure quality control.
A monitoring mechanism has already been created which includes Committee of Secretaries under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary at the Centre which meets every month, two Empowered Committees under Secretary, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Chief Secretary Delhi to ensure a fast-track mechanism, Ms Dikshit said.
Further, a committee has also been constituted under the Chairmanship Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development to achieve effective coordination between various agencies, she added.
It was reported in the meeting, attended by UD and PWD Minister A K Walia, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, Education Minister Arvinder Singh, Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami, Pr.
Secretaries, Secretaries of Delhi Government and senior officers from all local bodies, that 27 new projects of flyovers and bridges would be commissioned before December 2009.
Out of these, 13 would provide connectivity to the Games Village, venues and hospitals whereas the remaining would provide intra city connectivity.
Also discussed at the meeting were issues related to the improvement and upgradation of Tyagraj Sports Complex and Talkatora Stadium.
Ms Dikshit instructed the Chief Secretary to apprise the Cabinet Secretary, Union Sports Secretary and the IOA about difficulties being faced in this sector. Issues relating to new Metro connectivity, augmentation of DTC Fleet, High Capacity Bus System in seven corridors and new Multi-level parking were also discussed.
It was also decided to finalise issue of plying Electric Buses inside Games Village. The DTC would commission 225 modern disabled-friendly bus que shelters on roads leading to Airport, Railway Stations and Games Venues by December this year whereas commissioning of 197 bus que shelters in NDMC area is going to be completed soon.
Construction of two new ISBTs at Dwarka and Narela would commence by December this year whereas redevelopment of Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan ISBTs is in pipeline.
Additional parking facilities for 8000 cars is being developed near IG Stadium, JLN Stadium, Tyagraj Stadium and Delhi University.
This includes 16 multi-level parking sites to be commissioned by the MCD on a BOT basis by December 2009. The PWD has taken up widening of 202 lane km road with an estimated cost of Rs. 283 crore, which would be completed by December 2009. The works on six FOBs have been completed whereas for another four is in progress. In all, 47 FOBs would be commissioned and escalators would be provided on important FOBs.
The DJB would commission a 1 MGD Water Treatment Plant and 1 MGD Sewerage Treatment Plant for which DDA has allotted land.
All the Games Venues would get adequate water supply. A 20-bedded polyclinic in Games Village with network connectivity to super specialty hospitals would be commissioned whereas upgradation of five existing hospitals would be ensured.
