Ballia, May 3 (UNI) Terming the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly poll as a battle between the ruling Samajwadi Party and opposition, chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said it was now up to the people if they wanted a leader with strong espousal of development.

''There is a strong SP undercurrent in UP. Therefore, the opposition is unnecessarily training guns at us and trying to shake the pillars of my regime,'' Mr Yadav said while addressing poll meetings here.

Highlighting the achievements of his regime, the former defence minister asserted, ''I always worked for the development of all without discrimination.'' Castigating the Congress-led UPA at the centre, the CM alleged, ''it always ditched the masses. The party always befooled people in its 45 years of power at the centre. It is the mother of inflation, which has made life miserable.'' Terming the BJP as anti-Muslim, he urged the community not to get carried away by the party's 'crocodile tears' as it has always left them in the lurch.

''Given a chance to resume power in UP, education, irrigation and medical facilities would be made free for all, while every poor will get a 'pucca' house,'' he announced.
