Patil joins agitation against Cauvery verdict

Mysore, May 3 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council H K Patil and other Congress members today joined the agitation against the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Mr Patil, along with Cauvery Kriya Samithi President and former Union Minister V Sreenivasa Prasad, staged a dharna for some time in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Patil urged the Union Government to take necessary steps to solve the Cauvery issue immediately. He criticised the State Government for its ''unnecessary'' delay in filing a review petition against the verdict.

Meanwhile, the signature campaign of the Samithi against the award continued.

In Mandya, members of the Cauvery Hitharakshana Samithi and villagers continued their dharna at Silver Jubilee park. Dharnas were also staged at Maddur, Srirangapatana and Pandavapura.

At a function in the city, noted writer Prof Jaware Gowda released a book titled 'Cauvery Lopa Mudre', written by Mr Patil.
