Narmada main canal project undertaken to reach water to Rajasthan

Gandhinagar, May 3 (UNI) The Gujarat Government has commenced work on a 101-kilometre-long Sardar Sarovar main canal with a view to reach Narmada waters to the parched lands of Rajasthan.

A Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited press release here said 357 kilometres of the 458-km-long main canal has already been completed.

That apart, of the total 38 branch canals, work will be accomplished on 32 branch canals, the press release said.

The release said the Government plans to provide irrigational facilities to five lakh hectares of land between the dam site and Saurashtra canal branch. Five lakh farmers, including 29,000 tribals and 12,500 scheduled tribal farmers, will benefit from this.

That apart, four pumping stations will be activated between Maliya, Vallabhipur, Limadi, Botad and Morabi for which the state government has provisioned Rs 3013 crore, the release said.
