Manipur Police begin offensive against militants

Imphal, May 3: Manipur police will soon begin a major offensive against militants hiding in various cities of the state, police sources said here today.

Four cadres of the People's Liberation Army(PLA) were nabbed last night.

Recently, the state police has been able to nab some of the top leaders of various outfits from Kolkata and Guwahati.

United National Liberation Front(UNLF) general secretary Narengbam Marjit was nabbed by the combined forces of Imphal East Police Commandos and the Guwahati City Police from Paltan Bazar in Guwahati yesterday, Manipur DGP Y Joykumar said here today.

Earlier, the DGP had said that top leaders of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak(PREPAK) had been jointly nabbed by the Manipur and Kolkata police from Kolkata.

A Maruti car, two laptops, four mobile phones and Rs 47 lakhs in cash were recovered from the UNLF General Secretary, the DGP added.

The DGP also hinted at further crackdowns on militants in Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Dimapur and Bangalore.

The arrested UNLF leader may be brought to Imphal today or tomorrow, police said here.

The DGP said the militants, who were hiding in other states have called upon Manipur state government officials to discuss various issues and place monetary demands. However, stringent action will be taken against any official who meets the militants.

In another incident, police said Imphal West District Police Commandos nabbed a Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup(KYKL) militant last evening.
