Karnataka to set up trauma centres along highways
Bangalore, May 3 (UNI) Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok today said the state government has planned to set up 44 trauma centres along the National and State Highways to provide emergency treatment to road accident victims.
Speaking to mediapersons here, he said that the Health Department had released Rs 46.90 crore to set up infrastructure along the highways in the state.
The decision was taken following the increase in accidents along the highways, he said adding that the government had asked the Centre to grant funds to take up the work.
The trauma centres would be working 24 X 7 basis with specialists available for treatment round-the-clock.
The government was also launching a new scheme called 'Madilu' to provide treatment to both mother and child in government hospitals.
The scheme would apply to BPL families in which health kits for the mother and child would be provided free of cost.
