Information Hubs to assist entrepreneurs in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 3 (UNI) All District Industries Centers (DICs) in Punjab will function as Information Hubs, to provide required information to the entrepreneurs, besides guiding and motivating them about the latest technology and working opportunities.

This was disclosed by Industries and Commerce Minister Manoranjan Kalia while reviewing the schemes of the Industries Department and functioning of DICs in a high level meeting held here today.

He said that the Ludhiana DIC was being equipped with the requisite facilities and it would be made operational within three months. Thereafter, work at the Jalandhar DIC and in other districts should be taken during this year.

He said that the latest computers and the required equipment would be installed in the DICs.

The Minister said that possibilities for developing Clusters for Sports Goods, Surgical Goods, Hand Tools and Rubber Goods at Jalandhar would be worked out. He directed that Rules for Industrial Facilitation Act should be finalised on priority.

He said that District Level Committees on industry and trade would meet regularly to grant requisite approvals to the projects in a time bound manner.

Regarding new Industrial Policy, the Minister said that the policy would have provisions for providing requisite support for the growth of existing industry as well as facilitating fresh industrial investment in the state.

The Minister directed the District Industrial Officers to be courteous in their mannerism and extend all possible help to entrepreneurs.

The meeting was attended by Mr A R Talwar, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Industries, all Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors of the Industries Department and General Managers of District Industries Centers.
