Haryana: Centre allocates Rs 237 cr for health programme

Chandigarh, May 3 (UNI) The Centre has allocated Rs 137.59 crore to Haryana for implementation of the Reproductive and Child Health Programme (Phase-II) under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) during the current financial year.

Haryana Health Minister Kartar Devi said the State Government was committed to contribute 15 per cent of the NRHM budget. She said the Reproductive and Child Health Programme Phase-II was sanctioned under NRHM for Haryana at a cost of Rs 749 crore for its implementation from 2005 to 2012.

The State had received Rs 48.74 crore during financial years 2005-06 and 2006-2007 for its implementation.

She said the National Rural Health Mission envisaged improved quality of life and also aimed at carrying out corrections in the basic health care delivery system.

Its approach related to health determinants of good health to improve availability and access to quality health care, especially for those residing in rural areas, the poor, women and children.

To address the need of providing care to trauma patients, four trauma centres were being constructed at the cost of one crore each. In the past two years, Rs 5.5 crore have been spent on maintenance of CHCs, Rs 10.5 crore to maintain PHCs and Rs 20 lakh on maintenance of Sub Centres in the State.

She said that systematic approach and continuous efforts of the health department resulted in filling up the vacant positions that were lying vacant in March 2005.
