Death toll in rain related incidents rises to nine
Mysore, May 3 (UNI) The death toll in rain-related incidents in the district has risen to nine, with the recovery of a body and another death reported today.
City Corporation Commissioner Chandrasekhar told UNI that an unidentified body was recovered. Sampath (22) of Chandagalu village in KR Nagara was charred to death when lightning struck him while working in the field.
Seven people were killed yesterday -- four fishermen in lightning strike and three women washed away in flash floods yesterday.
Firefighters were still searching for the bodies of the women.
District authorities have paid a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of each of the deceased.
With widespread rain, accompanied by gusty winds today, more than 300 trees were uprooted, affecting vehicular traffic at various places. More than six people, who were taking shelter under a tree, sustained minor injuries when a tree fell on them.
